So, with no restaurants to go to until recently, TXG has been doing the hard yards inserting itself into the retail food supply chain and cooking up a storm.
For the odd day (!) when we didn’t want to cater yet another 3 meals we also tried out various meal boxes.
We tried Pizza Pilgrims frying pan pizzas, Le Swine bacon roll kits, Prime Feast boxes including Burger and Lobster burgers and lobster rolls (deserving of a special mention) as well as various steaks of various sizes and cuts, the Patty and Bun burger kit, Legare’s Italian 4 course dinner box, Jose Pizarro and Sabor finish at home tapas, and Bubbledogs Rueben hot dogs.
All had things to recommend them and were uniformly excellent in terms of ingredient quality.
And the true joy of them all was the break from having to decide what to eat and then having to make it! Our favourite is the Dishoom bacon naan kit. It ships nationally, it’s absolutely delicious and super-easy (just follow the instructions exactly as they say for the naan – count to 30 folks!) and the fact that it comes with a spare naan for experimentation or in case of error and spices you can make chai with just make it a joyous little bundle. It’s not cheap, but it’s deeply cheering.
